Assemblyman Patrick Diegnan is a life long resident of South Plainfield. He is a graduate of South Plainfield High School, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University. He is a past President of the Sacred Heart Parish Council. Patrick opened his law office in South Plainfield in 1974 and was first appointed Borough Attorney in 1984. He and his wife of 30 years, Anita, have two daughters, Heather and Tara. Mr. Diegnan took his first oath of office as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 2002 where he now serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Committee and member of the Education Committee and Regulated Professions and Independent Authorities Committee. He is also the speaker's designee on the School Construction Corporation and was apointed by Speaker Joe Roberts as Parlimentarian for the General Assembly.

• $500,000 in Extraordinary Aid to offset property taxes.

• $250,000 in grants to aid our police department.

• Over $1,000,000 in grants for local road improvements including Hamilton Blv., Durham Ave., Maple Ave., Church St. and Belmont Ave.

• $50,000 state grant to offset cost of construction for pedestrian bridge at Memorial Park, across from Spring Lake.

• $250,000 from Department of Education to reimburse school district for prior years social security payments. (The superintendent refered to Assemblyman Diegnan's efforts on behalf of the school district as "miraculous".)

• $250,000 Department of Environmental Protection Grant for the clean up of Veteran's Park.

• $300,000 for Sidewalks and Curbs on Belmont Avenue and Church Street plus Handicapped Access for the Municipal Complex.

• Convinced the Department of Transportation to totally re-landscape the entrance onto Route 287 with 48 maple trees, 24 flowering cherry trees, 24 flowering pear trees, 60 spruce trees and 60 white pine trees. Yellow daffodils are planted in some areas as a living memorial to the victims of September 11th.

• Sponsored Assembly Bill 2170, which is now law, which include programs such as South Plainfield's Future Stars to operate as they have in the past. This bill provides an exemption for programs like Future Stars from the State regulation that does not allow tuition-based programs in public schools.
