Buteas and Salerno Unanimously Endorsed for Borough Council

The South Plainfield Democratic Committee has unanimously endorsed Chrissy Buteas and Franky Salerno for Borough Council. Municipal Chair Patrick Diegnan summed up the feeling of the members of the Democratic Committee, “We had many excellent candidates screen for the positions who are more than qualified to serve as council members. It is a complement to Chrissy Buteas and Franky Salerno that their selection was unanimous. They are exactly what we need on the borough council. They are two outstanding, vibrant young people who only have one agenda…to serve our residents.” Both candidates were born and raised in South Plainfield and are graduates of South Plainfield High School. Chrissy Buteas, who was an all area goalie on our high school field hockey team, went on to be a member of the National Championship team at Rowan University graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Justice. Chrissy continued her education at Rutgers University where she received a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and was a member of the exclusive Phi Alpha Alpha academic society. In addition to her impressive academic and sports accomplishments, Chrissy Buteas has been named a 2008 Fellow in “Leadership New Jersey”. Council candidate Buteas, who is 26 years old, has served on numerous local, state and county boards including serving as a member of the South Plainfield Board of Adjustment, Public Celebrations Committee and the South Plainfield Recreation Commission. In commenting on her nomination Ms. Buteas said “My mother and father taught me that it’s important to always strive to do your best. I promise that I will always dedicate 100% to make South Plainfield an even better place to live. I can’t think of a better running mate than Franky Salerno. He embodies what the word ‘service’ is all about. I look forward to the upcoming campaign and comparing the Democratic vision for the future of our borough with the Republican’s record of borrow, tax and spend.”

Council candidate Franky Salerno’s life was changed on September 11th, 2001. Franky was a senior at South Plainfield High School when the twin towers were attacked. He knew that he had to defend his country. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Iraq for over a year and received the Iraq Service Medal. Council candidate Salerno’s commitment to service didn’t end with his tour of duty in the Middle East. Upon returning home he became a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Italian American Club. He has coached Pop Warner football and Recreation League Basketball. Franky Salerno is also a member of the South Plainfield Planning Board. He is a registered electrical apprentice and is completing the requirements to become a licensed electrician. Candidate Salerno said, “As the expression goes ‘Freedom isn’t free.’ Although I am only 24 years old I have an appreciation of this great country of ours which can’t be counted in years. My parents always told me that in America if you work hard there is no limit to what you can achieve. I will never take public office lightly and I promise to never abuse the trust of the people of South Plainfield. I am honored to run with Chrissy Buteas. She represents the best South Plainfield can produce. She is already recognized throughout New Jersey for her intelligence and dedication. The team of Buteas and Salerno will work to put South Plainfield back on the right track.”
Mayor Charles Butrico summed up the reaction to the Democratic slate, “Chrissy Buteas and Franky Salerno are at the forefront of the next generation of leaders in South Plainfield. I couldn’t be more thrilled. They are intelligent, enthusiastic and honest. They love this borough and they will make all of us proud.”
