PETRONKO AND SCRUDATO POINT OUT THAT FLIP FLOP ON TRUCKS PROVES REPUBLICANS WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED
Democrats Ray Petronko and Joe Scrudato this week commented on the Republican candidates for council flip flop on keeping trucks off of Hamilton Boulevard. Joe Scrudato said "I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the Anesh/Bengivenga campaign flyer. They claim that they now support the Democrats plan to keep trucks off of Hamilton Boulevard. These are the same two people who have tried to sabotage the plan from the beginning. When Rob and Matt were on the council they actually diverted the money for the New Market Avenue extension to other useless projects. As recently as three months ago the Republicans voted against the funding of the project. No wonder people have such little respect for politicians. Even though their prior position was wrong, I think the voters would have more respect for Anesh and Bengivenga if they stuck to their word."
Ray Petronko expanded upon his running mates comments saying "Do Anesh and Bengivenga think people forgot what they did about Hamilton Boulevard when they were in control of the council? They actually passed an Ordinance to return trucks to that residential street last summer. If not for Mayor Butrico's veto and the election results which returned the Democrats to the majority, 18 wheelers would be rolling past Roosevelt School right now. They went so far as to petition the Department of Transportation and the County Freeholders to override Mayor Butrico's veto. Anesh and Bengivenga even put campaign signs around town trying to divide neighbor against neighbor over the truck issue. What are they are now telling the homeowners along New Market Avenue and Spicer Avenue? Were they not telling the truth then or are they not telling the truth now?"
Joe Scrudato summed up the Democrats position "It may sound old fashioned but Ray and I think there are more important things than winning elections. We always try to keep our word. Keeping trucks off of Hamilton Boulevard is just one example. Three years ago despite the sniping of the local Republicans we committed to the plan to extend New Market Avenue. The project will begin within a couple of weeks. We are proud that we stayed the course and did the right thing. Regardless of the issue you can always count on one thing…..Ray Petronko and Joe Scrudato will never say anything just to get elected."
