Democrats Petronko/Scrudato Campaign theme: “Keep South Plainfield Moving Forward”

Democratic Council members Ray Petronko and Joe Scrudato have chosen the slogan “Keep South Plainfield Moving Forward” for this year’s campaign.   Council President Ray Petronko explained the reason behind the slogan saying “In the past we have always theorized what would happen if the Republicans were in control of Borough government.  It actually happened in 2008 and it wasn’t pretty.  Taxes went through the roof, the plan to take trucks off Hamilton Boulevard was sabotaged, open space was ignored, Republican friends on the borough payroll were given raises and worst of all divisive politics became the norm.  What a difference a year makes!  Under the leadership of Mayor Butrico the new Democratic majority has righted the ship of state in South Plainfield.   We can’t afford to go back to failed policies of the past….we must keep South Plainfield moving forward.”

Council member Joe Scrudato expanded upon his running mates comments:  “The most amazing thing is that the local Republican Party is running the same two candidates who were overwhelmingly rejected by the voters last November.   It is clear that they are out of step with the wishes of our residents.  Ray and I look forward to running on our record of accomplishments.  This year’s borough budget is actually less than last years.   Compare that with the 17 point tax increase when Matt Anesh and Rob Bengivenga were in office.    The start of construction on the New Market Avenue extension will take place within 30 days.   Last year Anesh and Bengivenga diverted the money to useless projects.   We have been approved for an additional three parcels of open space by Middlesex County.  Under the Republicans open space was ignored.   Most importantly Ray and I along with our Mayor and the Democrats on the council always treat everyone with respect.  The days of laughing at people at council meetings are over.”

Both candidates Petronko and Scrudato look forward to the upcoming campaign.   Ray Petronko pointed out that they have already started going door to door.  “We really like to meet with our residents and get your input as to what you want to see us work on.   It is really great to be running with Joe.   He is as hard working and dedicated as anyone I know.”   Joe Scrudato returned the compliment saying “ Ray is both analytical and practical.   When he sees a problem he immediately works on a solution.  We need his leadership on the borough council”
