Democrats Endorse Michael English for Mayor and Jeffrey Williams and John Sorrentino for Council

 

The South Plainfield Democratic Committee has unanimously endorsed Michael English as their candidate for Mayor and Jeffrey Williams and John Sorrentino as council candidates in this November's election. Michael English served as Mayor from 1983 through 1986. He was twice elected to the borough council prior to his election as Mayor. He has also served on the South Plainfield Board of Education including Board President in 2005. Mr. English was a Social Studies teacher at St. Joseph's High School, Bridgewater-Raritan East and South Plainfield High School . He also served as South Plainfield's Recreation Director spearheading the expansion of the PAL and restoration of the community pool facility. He presently is the Chair of the Social Studies Department at Hillel Yeshiva High School and is a CCD teacher for eight grade candidates for confirmation at Sacred Heart Church. Former Mayor English has received a host of recognitions and honors. He and his wife Susan live at 123 Lee Place. They have two children, Shawn and Brian. Brian is married to the former Jenna Flakne and they have two children Aidan and Bryce.

Jeffrey Williams is a 2003 graduate of South Plainfield High. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from High Point University where he was a Dean's list student. He was a Presidential Award Recipient in 2003 and was named Most Valuable Player in Men's Varsity Track and Field while at South Plainfield High. At college he was a 5 time Southern Conference Track and Field Champion. He continues to compete in Track and Field events and was the USA Indoor National Club Champion. Jeff is a Minister and Volunteer Youth Leader at the Upper Room Full Gospel Church. He is also the Mayoral Representative for the Housing and Community Development Committee and is a member of the Public Celebrations Committee. He lives with his parents, Bruce and Phyllis at 102 East Nassau Avenue. He has three brothers, Bruce Jr., Michael and Timothy and his sister Tiffany is an Administrative Law Judge.

John Sorrentino is a 15 year member of the Public Celebrations Committee where he has served as Chairman for eight years. In addition to working with the committee on the annual Labor Day Parade, John has specific responsibility for coordinating the outstanding fireworks display. John has a history of volunteer activities including working with South Plainfield Ponytail, Little League and Football Eagles. He is a graduate of the Lincoln Technical Institute and is employed as an HVAC equipment specialist. Apart from his love of family and his home town, John is known for his die hard support for the Jets and Yankees. He and his wife Maryann live at 225 Hopkinson Street. They have three children, Angela who is married to Jay Seredocha, Anthony who is engaged to Stacy Brooks (They will be married on June 25th) and Joseph.

Former Mayor English summed up the focus of the new Democratic team saying "Jeff, John and I will run a positive campaign setting forth our vision for South Plainfield. Between now and November we intend to visit every home in the borough. This is a time of challenge for every town in our state. We welcome this challenge as an opportunity to bring about the change which our residents are demanding. The time for politics as usual is over. I can assure you that the team of English, Williams and Sorrentino will always work for what's best for our hard working families."
