The Democratic team of Mike English for Mayor and John Sorrentino and Jeff Williams for Borough Council are asking residents what they think about the future of South Plainfield. Tough choices have to be made if our community to going to meet the financial and economic challenges of the next decade. All three candidates refuse to be part of the usual political campaigns that are nothing but an exercise in criticizing your opponents.

Mayoral candidate Mike English believes towns can no longer function without Five-Year Financial Plans that will include fact-based projections of municipal expenses and revenues. Mike has said repeatedly that every year should not produce a budget crisis. All three candidates realize that municipal taxes and expenses must be reduced. They plan on reviewing every department, program, salary, and position, and reinstitute Zero-based budgeting. Council candidate Jeff Williams understands that the dramatic reductions in state municipal aid and aid to our schools have forced everyone to spend money prudently and wisely. The municipal budget proposed this year relies on over ONE MILLION Dollars more in municipal taxes to cover expenses. All three Democratic candidates refuse to accept a budget with those kind of numbers. Council candidate John Sorrentino is committed to finding a bigger space to house our community library. He knows that everyone will have to work together to achieve this.

Mike, John, and Jeff want to make sure that the traffic conditions in town are improved. A lot has already been done to make our town safer but a permanent solution will guarantee that our residents and our local businesses will continue to grow and be successful.
